Kepco in talks with Turkey to develop 4 nuclear power plants

The state-run Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) is in discussions with the Turkish government to develop four nuclear power plants worth about 40 trillion won ($30.7 billion).

A spokesperson at Kepco said on Thursday that the two parties will likely begin a feasibility study next year, after which they could sign an agreement to build four nuclear reactors capable of providing 1,400-megawatt of electricity in the northern part of the country.

Turkey initially tapped Mitsubishi Shipbuilding to build the reactors in 2013, but an agreement fell apart due to differing views on pricing. The Turkish government contacted Kepco in April to explore cooperation on the project.
