Korean dramas 'The Glory,' 'Island' rank high on streaming services

Korean dramas are ranking at the top of streaming services' lists in the first few days of January.
 
“The Glory” ranked fifth in the global rankings on Netflix as of Monday, while “Island” ranked tenth on Amazon Prime Video the previous day, according to FlixPatrol, an online content ranking aggregation site on Monday. It had only been two days since both were released, on Dec. 30.
 
The Netflix original series starring Song Hye-kyo “The Glory” is a revenge story of a woman who was bullied in her childhood and consists of 16 episodes in total, with Part 1 that is currently released consisting of 8 episodes. The show ranked first in 10 regions including Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and more.
 
The show ranked second in Hong Kong, Japan, the Maldives, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, and ranked fourth in Bahrain, Bangladesh, Kuwait and Sri Lanka.
 
“The Glory” is the first revenge story written by Kim Eun-sook, who wrote the scripts for “Mr. Sunshine” (2018), “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” (2016-17) and “Descendants of the Sun” (2016).
 
Song plays the main role of Moon Dong-eun, a victim of school bullying and violence.
 
Tving’s original drama “Island” starring Cha Eun-woo and Kim Nam-gil is currently being released sequentially every Friday, through Tving in Korea and Amazon Prime Video overseas.
 
Looking at rankings by country, “Island” ranked first in five countries including Indonesia, Taiwan and Vietnam, and second in Cambodia, Hong Kong and Singapore among others.
 
“Island” is based on a popular webtoon in Korea and depicts the journey of characters who are destined to fight against evil that is trying to destroy the world. Lee Da-hee and Sunghoon joins the cast along with Cha and Kim.
