NewJeans sells over 700,000 copies of latest EP 'OMG' in first week

Girl group NewJeans sold over 700,000 copies of its latest EP "OMG" during the first week of release, up 125 percent from that of its debut album "New Jeans."

According to local album sales tracker Hanteo Chart, a total of 701,241 copies of "OMG" were sold between Jan. 2 and 8, of which 580,000 were sold in just two days of release.

Last August, NewJeans became the best-selling newly-debuting K-pop girl group based on first-week album sales, by selling 310,000 copies of its album "New Jeans." With "OMG," the group has become the youngest girl group in K-pop to make it on the top five best first-week sales.

"OMG" has also been scoring high on global charts, sitting on the No. 1 spot of Japanese Oricon's Daily Single Ranking chart on Jan. 6.

The group has taken home four Rookie of the Year awards so far, from the 2022 The Fact Music Awards, the Melon Music Awards (MMA) 2022, 2022 Asia Artist Awards and the 37th Golden Disc Awards with TikTok.
