"Avatar: The Way of Water" hit 10 million admissions on Tuesday morning, becoming the first foreign film to reach the mark since the pandemic.

The number of aggregate ticket sales came in at 10,053,086 as of Tuesday 7 a.m., according to data from the Korean Film Council (Kofic). That's 42 days after the film hit theaters on Dec. 14.

"This is such wonderful news," said actor Zeo Saldana in a congratulatory video uploaded on the 20th Century Studios Korea's YouTube channel on Tuesday.

"We're really touched by everyone's support and love," said James Cameron, the director of the film. "I want to thank you all, thank you once again, Korea."

The "Avatar" (2009) sequel took four more days than its predecessor to hit the 10-million-ticket mark, which achieved the feat in 38 days of release. Still, it is the only foreign film and the second film to premier in Korea to have been seen that much during the pandemic

"The Roundup" (2022), a sequel to crime action flick "The Outlaws" (2017), became the first 10-million-selling film since Covid-19 last year.
