Samsung Electronics introduced a new air conditioner, the latest addition to the company’s luxury home appliance brand, Bespoke.

With electricity rates expected to continue rising through the year, the home appliance maker emphasized that its new third-generation air conditioner will be energy efficient with low carbon emissions.

Samsung introduced its first “WindFree” air conditioner in 2016 that does not emit a direct cold airflow.

The Bespoke WindFree air conditioner consumes 10 percent less electricity compared to an average product that meets the highest energy consumption efficiency rating standard, according to Samsung Electronics.

With the energy-saving mode activated through Samsung’s SmartThings device control app, the air conditioner can reduce an additional 20 percent of electricity consumption.

Though home appliance sales have been slowing worldwide due to inflation, Samsung believes the domestic demand for air conditioners will remain fairly steady.

“We estimate the annual domestic demand for air conditioners at about 2 million to 2.5 million units,” said Choi Young-joon, vice president of the home appliance business at Samsung Electronics, during a press conference held in the company’s R&D center in southern Seoul.

According to Choi, “the time when air conditioners were sold only in the summer has passed,” as Samsung rolled out its latest Bespoke WindFree air conditioner while Korea is gripped in a sudden cold spell.

“Air conditioners are not merely a seasonal product anymore, and is a crucial product in everyday life, meaning that many people tend to buy a new air conditioner after getting married, or when moving to other places,” said Choi.

The higher-end model of the Bespoke WindFree air conditioner provides a heating option as well.

The price of the standard model ranges from 2.87 million won ($2,331) to 3.12 million won, depending on the cooling capacity, and the high-end Gallery model from 3.22 million won to 6.79 million won.

Samsung also introduced a new Bespoke Cube air purifier on Thursday, which supports various modes specializing in pet care, sterilization and more.
