Former Justice Minister Cho Kuk was sentenced to two years and a fine of 6 million won ($4,880) for falsifying documents for his children’s higher education admissions and other charges.

Cho’s wife, Chung Kyung-sim, who is already serving a four-year sentence since 2020, was given another year in prison.

However, the former Justice Minister and key aide to President Moon Jae-in was not immediately detained, unlike his wife after her first sentencing in 2020.

Cho said he will appeal the ruling.
