Under a unique subunit system, girl group tripleS debuted as its own group of 10 on Monday through a showcase held at Blue Square in Yongsan District, central Seoul.

The 10 members — Yoon Seo-yeon, Jeong Hye-rin, Lee Ji-woo, Kim Chae-yeon, Kim Yoo-yeon, Kim Soo-min, Kim Na-kyoung, Gong Yu-bin, Kaede and Seo Da-hyun — presented their first EP “Assemble” and lead track “Rising.”

“Since we’ve practiced so long to stand on stage today, it’s a very meaningful and unforgettable moment for us right now,” said Chae-yeon.

The group plans to continue revealing more members and subunits, like how it presented its subunit Acid Angel from Asia (AAA) in October prior to the official launch of tripleS.

tripleS is set to consist of 24 members in total. Its agency Modhaus has revealed 12 members so far: 10 Korean and two Japanese. The 10 members participating in “Assemble” belong to the group’s Korea-based dormitory, Seoul Haus.

Under the catchphrase “a girl group that fans create themselves” and “idol of all possibilities,” tripleS has operated under a unique system since AAA’s debut. The name of the group's official fandom is Master, who vote to decide which members will form a temporary subunit. The voting process is dubbed Gravity, which takes place on Modhaus’s official app Cosmo, and goes on to form subunits called Dimension.

Last year, Master selected members Kim Yoo-yeon, Kim Na-kyoung, Gong Yu-bin and Jeong Hye-rin to form AAA, the first Dimension from tripleS.

Each Dimension is by default a temporary subunit, but can become an ongoing group if it sells over 100,000 copies of CDs during its activities. AAA failed to reach that number, selling 18,300 physical copies, but garnered media attention for its unique system.

“Because it means there’s room for infinite challenges, I don’t think we’re too worried about [hitting] the 100,000 mark,” said Seo-yeon.

“Challenging ourselves to a different subunit in each comeback can also be very nerve-racking for us,” said Yoo-yeon, “but it also makes us curious what we’ll do with which member next time.”

A bigger Dimension under the tripleS system is formed once a year, as seen with “Assemble.” The group premiered the music video and stage performance for “Rising,” which was also determined via fan votes.

“'Rising' received 57,000 votes from fans and was selected to be the lead track,” said Ji-woo.

“It’s a song about girls running toward their dreams,” said Na-kyoung. “It sings about how cool it is to work hard for your dreams.”

The EP also features tracks “Beam,” “Before the Rise,” “Colorful,” “The Baddest,” “New Look” and “Chowall.”

After tripleS, another Dimension named +(KR)ystal Eyes is scheduled to debut. The member lineup for +(KR)ystal Eyes was selected in September 2022, but the unit is yet to officially debut.

“The idea of [surpassing 100,000 copies in physical CD sales] was a little stressful at first,” said Da-hyun. “But even if we don’t reach that mark, what matters is that we’ve worked so hard for this.”
