Lee Jae-yong not a nominee for Samsung Electronics directorship

Lee Jae-yong, executive chairman at Samsung Electronics

Lee Jae-yong, executive chairman at Samsung Electronics

Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong is not on the list of board of director nominees to be voted on by shareholders at the annual meeting on March 15.

His name does not appear on the agenda.

Lee was appointed executive chairman by the company's board last year but has not been a director himself since 2019, when he did not stand for a board seat.

He had been on the board since October 2016.

His departure from the board came as he was embroiled in a bribery scandal related to former President Park Geun-hye. The title of executive chairman was granted after he received a presidential pardon.

Lee is still facing charges related to the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act due to alleged involvement in an accounting fraud and engineering an unfair merger between Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T to strengthen his influence over Samsung Electronics and related companies.

Agenda items for the meeting include the reappointment of Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee as a board member and confirmation of financial results.
