Twice's music video for its 2018 hit "What is Love?" surpassed 700 million views on YouTube on Wednesday afternoon, according to the girl group's agency JYP Entertainment.
The music video was released on the video platform simultaneously with the song on April 9, 2018, as the title track of the group's fifth EP. The music and lyrics are by Park Jin-young, the founder and executive producer of JYP. The nearly four-minute video clip showcases Twice's nine members who each take turns as the protagonists of iconic movies.
The girl group's other music videos are also seeing a steady stream of clicks.
Its music video for the song "Likey" (2017) from its first EP had 591.79 million views as of 12 p.m. on Wednesday. The choreography clip of its song "I Can't Stop Me" (2020) surpassed 100 million views on Friday.
With a total of 21 music videos that have over 100 million views, JYP Entertainment said that Twice holds the record as the girl group with the most number of music videos that have garnered more than 100 million views.
Twice debuted in 2015 with the EP “The Story Begins” and lead song “Like Ooh-Ahh.” The group became widely popular with the song “Cheer Up” (2016) and has since released hits like “TT” (2016), “Feel Special” (2019) and “Alcohol-Free” (2021). The group's members are Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu.
Most recently, the group released its English single, “Moonlight Sunrise” on Jan. 20. It landed at No. 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The group will follow up with its new EP “Ready To Be” on March 10.
Twice is also expected to showcase its first subunit called MiSaMo. Comprised of the three Japanese members of the group — Mina, Sana and Momo — MiSaMo will make its debut with its first EP in Japan on July 2, as announced by JYP earlier this year.
