Korean figure skating prospect Shin Ji-a won her second consecutive silver medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Calgary, Canada on Friday.

The 15-year-old figure skater, who won her first silver in the event last year, took second with 201.9 points.

Shimada Mao of Japan topped the podium with 224.54 points, with her countrywoman Nakai Ami finishing third with 197.4.

Russia and Japan have dominated women’s figure skating in the World Junior Figure Skating Championships since 2013 — Russia has won seven of 10 gold medals with seven silvers and two bronzes, while Japan has earned two golds, one silver and five bronzes.

The first time Korea managed a medal was when figure skating legend Kim Yuna earned a silver in 2005. Kim then became the first ever Korean gold medalist in the event the following year.

Shin’s silver on Friday marked Korea’s third silver medal in the tournament.

Although Shin failed to top the podium this year, she still has three more chances to win the coveted gold as she can compete in the annual event until she turns 19.

“I am happy that I medaled at a big event like the World Junior Figure Skating Championships after I did last year,” Shin said through her management company All That Sports on Friday. “I want to complement the factors that I felt insufficient this season and want to work to be a better skater next season.”
