Lotte signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Busan Metropolitan City to help it win the bid to host the World Expo 2030.

The company plans to use its infrastructure for the on-site visit by the inspection team from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) for the World Expo 2030 bid, scheduled from April 3 to 7.

The city has planned to host a variety of promotional events for domestic and foreign tourists to enjoy together.

It will provide Signiel Busan, one of the hotel brands run by Lotte Hotel & Resort, to accommodate the team. Signiel Busan is situated in Haeundae’s landmark LCT tower and provides one of the top views of Busan’s tourist sites.

Some 700 buildings owned by Lotte, including the hotel and Lotte Department Store in Busan, will promote the World Expo 2030 with banners “Busan is ready!”

Lotte Home Shopping and Lotte World will host a photo zone featuring massive sculptures of their mascots Bellygom, Lotty and Lorry from March 27 to April 4 at Gwanghwamun, central Seoul, in line with the inspection team’s visit to support the bid.

Lotte has formed a task force team to support the bid. Chairman Shin Dong-bin has been promoting the city during global events, such as in The Consumer Goods Forum at Dublin and the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Shin also met with Phan Van Mai, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee chairman, at the ground breaking ceremony for Thu Thiem Eco Smart City last September to ask for his support of the bid.
