K-pop is the first thing that comes to mind when many foreigners think of Korea, and Indonesia, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are among the top nations consuming Korean culture content, according to the 2023 Global Hallyu Trends report released by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Friday.
The report, produced in association with the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, surveyed 25,000 respondents familiar with Korean culture content from 26 different countries.
“Keywords such as IT products and services have been pushed back, and Korean culture content is replacing these,” the report said.
Fourteen percent of the respondents associated K-pop with Korea, followed by Korean foods (13.2 percent), Hallyu stars (7.4 percent), K-drama (6.6 percent) and IT products and brands (5.6 percent).
Out of the total respondents, 70 percent had a positive view of Korea, including 90 percent of the respondents from Vietnam, followed by India, Indonesia, Turkey, the UAE and Thailand. On the other hand, Japan, at 35.4 percent, and Germany and Taiwan had the least positive views about Korea.
