Doosan Enerbility clinched a 60-billion-won ($45.9-million) supply deal for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant project in Uzbekistan, the company said Wednesday.

Doosan Enerbility received a notice to proceed, a letter issued to a contractor to proceed with the agreed project, from China’s Harbin Electric International for the LNG plant project in Uzbekistan.

It is Doosan’s first project in the central Asian country.

The LNG plant will be built in Syrdaria, 150 kilometers (93.2 miles) south of the Uzbek capital Tashkent, with generation capacity of 1,600 megawatts. The plant will begin commercial operation in 2026.

Doosan Enerbility will supply equipment for the project, including 500-megawatt steam turbines.

“Uzbekistan, which has the biggest growth potential in the central Asian region, is actively pushing forward with infrastructure projects in the energy generation and construction sectors in a public-private partnership,” said Park Hong-wook, head of the power service business at Doosan Enerbility.

“Starting with the signing of the equipment supply deal, we will further expand our foothold in central Asian countries including Uzbekistan,” Park added.

Doosan Enerbility recently won a 1.15-trillion-won deal to construct a combined cycle power plant in Shymkent, a southern industrial city of Kazakhstan.
