The SSG Landers have signed former manager Trey Hillman as a consultant, the club announced Wednesday.

Hillman, who led the Landers to the Korean Series title in 2018 when the club was called the SK Wyverns, will assist the club with international scouting and player development, as well as helping foreign players adjust to life in Korea.

"In order to develop our baseball operations, we decided to bring back Trey Hillman, who has a wealth of experience as a player, coach, manager and executive in Korea, the United States and Japan," the Landers said in a statement.

Hillman has had a long coaching career, starting as a scout with the Cleveland Indians in 1988 and working his way through a number of organizations including spells managing in the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers farming systems.

His first top-level managerial role was with the Hokkaido Nippon-Hwam Fighters in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball league in 2003, with whom he won the Pacific League title and the Japan Series.

He had a two-year spell at the Kansas City Royals before returning to the Yankees and Dodgers, and later the Houston Astros, in assistant roles.

After a year with the Wyverns, during which he became the only manager ever to win both the Korean Series and Japan Series, Hillman returned to the United States and joined the development staff at the Los Angeles Angels.

The SSG Landers are the reigning KBO champions, having won both the regular season and Korean Series titles last year.
