Jimin from boy band BTS showed his true "Face" through his first solo album, which carries both a bit of the expected along with some of the unexpected.

“The album was a new challenge for me in every way — I wanted to show the sides of BTS Jimin that people expect, in addition to a new side of myself that people didn’t expect," Jimin said in a video uploaded on Friday to explain his new album prior to its release at 1 p.m.

"Face," with six tracks, is an "album filled with the various emotions I felt, with my own voice," according to the vocalist.

"I was able to face my true self after spending time to fully prove myself," he said. “I was able to convey the feelings that I’ve never revealed before in the album. This is why I would like to introduce it as an album that reflects the real Jimin."

Despite having taken the world music scene by storm as a member of BTS and with some of his own tracks too, a solo album was an entirely new experience that was more nerve-racking than he expected.

“While I did release some solo tracks or soundtracks, this is the first time I’m releasing my first solo album, and I’m quite nervous about it," he said.

“I worked on this album looking at my own inner self, and because I was able to see the waves of turbulence in different sizes resonating [in my inner self], the keyword resonance means that I am expressing my inner self with my own voice [in the album],” he continued to explain.

Jimin had previously released solo tracks within albums of BTS, on SoundCloud and as parts of soundtracks. But he explained that “Face” was something new for him.

“My first solo album feels different from the solo tracks I’ve released. […] I tried new things as I worked on the album, and I learned a lot of things for the first time as I worked on it.”

“Notably, I challenged myself to rap — it’s kind of awkward to even call it a rap — but it was a new challenge for me.”

“Having worked on the album during a pandemic, I tried to convey the empty and lonely feelings I felt in the songs. It was tough for me to really get into the mood when recording the song.” He explained that the fourth track, “Alone,” especially talked about how he felt.

Jimin explained that the lead track “Like Crazy” is a synth-pop track with a light and cheerful melody that can be listened to with joy, but with contrasting lyrics inspired by the movie “Like Crazy” (2011).

He also felt confident that he would fully exceed the high expectations of his fans.

“I think a lot of people expect [good] performances from me, and I’ve worked really hard on the choreography in the new album.”

“While I tried to convey a sense of grandeur, powerfulness and toughness in ‘Set Me Free Pt.2,’ ‘Like Crazy’ is more flexible and delicate, similar to my previous performances,” he explained.

Jimin described the release as a "new beginning for me as a musician and as an individual," and hoped that he can share his first solo album with a lot of people.

“Please look forward to my future activities […] and I hope you enjoy the album!”

The album was released globally Friday and includes six tracks: “Face-off”; “Interlude: Dive”; lead track “Like Crazy”; “Alone”; pre-released track “Set Me Free Pt.2” and “Like Crazy (English Version).”

Jimin will begin his album promotions with an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Thursday on the U.S. network NBC. He will also appear in music shows and variety programs.
