A bridge in Bundang District of Seongnam, Gyeonggi, collapsed Wednesday, killing one person and injuring another.
The bridge's pier gave away around 9:45 a.m., and the guardrails and road signs crumbled down onto a trail below the bridge. Two pedestrians who were on the bridge fell with the structure. Both people were initially transported to a hospital, but a woman in her 40s lost her life. A man in his 20s suffered an injury to his waist and is receiving treatment.
The area has been getting heavy rain since Tuesday night.
The police and fire authorities are investigating how the six-lane bridge built in 1993 caved in, based on witness testimonies.
