A single burger priced at 16,500 won ($12.40) was released amid soaring consumer prices.

Burger King announced the release of the “Quattro Maximum Meat Focused Amazing Ultimate Grilled Patty of the Biggest Four Super Meat Freak” burger on Monday.

The Quattro Maximum burger comes in two versions, the Quattro Maximum 3 with three beef patties and the Quattro Maximum 4 with four patties.

The name is intended to entertain consumers, said the burger joint.

The Quattro Maximum 3 is priced at 14,500 won and Quattro Maximum 4 at 16,500 won. Combo meals can be purchase for an additional 2,000 won.

The price of the new premium burger surpasses that of other burger franchises, such as McDonald’s 1995 Triple Onion Burger (8,600 won) and Lotteria’s Double House Bulgogi (12,400 won). It nears the price of one box of fried chicken, priced at around 20,000 won.

The release comes three days after the government asked burger companies to avoid raising prices.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs convened a meeting with officials of major franchise food companies in Korea — Starbucks, Kyochon F&B, BHC, Genesis BBQ, Lotte GRS and Mom’s Touch — on April 21 and requested to halt price hikes.

Burger joints have increased prices in general recently. In March, Mom’s Touch raised burger prices for the first time in a year and Burger King for the first time in seven months. McDonald’s, KFC, Lotteria and No Brand Burger raised their prices in the first quarter of this year.
