Singer Bobby Chung, who had been serving a one-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual assault and illegal filming, was acquitted in an appeals trial and released Thursday.

The Seoul Western District Court overturned the lower court’s sentence of one year in prison, finding him guilty of sexual assault and fining him 3 million won ($2,270). The Seoul Western District Court said that “evidence was insufficient” to judge that Chung had illegally filmed the victim without her consent.

He initially stood trial in October 2021 and was found guilty of sexual assault and illegal filming.

Chung was also accused by his ex-girlfriend, who was reported to be a trainee singer, of sexual assault and illegal filming in July 2019. She died by suicide in April 2020. At trial, there was deemed to be insufficient evidence to charge Chung.

Chung debuted in 2009 as a member of singer-songwriter duo Autumn Vacation. The duo disbanded after allegations against Chung came to light.
