Japanese actors Nana Komatsu and Kentaro Sakaguchi visited Korea on Monday to promote their new film “The Last 10 Years,” while expressing hope for a more abundant relationship between Korea and Japan.

“The Last 10 Years” is about a woman named Matsuri, played by Komatsu, who is diagnosed with a rare disease and is told by doctors that she only has ten years to live. She vows to not fall in love in the remaining years that she has but meets Kazuto, an old friend, and beings a relationship with him, navigating the emotional turmoil of having to come to terms with her last 10 years.

“The Last 10 Years” opened in Japan last March and finally opened in Korea on May 24 this year. The film had attracted more than 2.3 million viewers in Japan and landed on the top spot of the Japanese box office in the first quarter of last year.

“I am very honored to be able to show our film not only in Japan but also in other countries including Korea,” Komatsu said during a press conference for “The Last 10 Years” held at CGV Yongsan in central Seoul Monday. “I have had the chance to meet many Korean audience members and they have been very passionate and honest about our film.”

“I was nervous about how the Korean audience would respond to ‘The Last 10 Years’ before I came here, but I feel that I have received so much positive energy from the Korean viewers,” Sakaguchi said during the press conference.

Komatsu and Sakaguchi also both talked about the potential for more cooperation between the Korean and Japanese film industries with the advent of streaming services and new types of content.
