Neowiz will release Lies of P, its much-anticipated role-playing game (RPG) for consoles and PC, on Sept. 19 globally, three weeks later than initially announced.

“We are doing our best to perfect the game,” explained Jason Park, director at Studio 8, the console game developing unit at Neowiz, at a press event held at the Josun Palace Hotel in southern Seoul on Friday. “Even with the risk of postponing the release date, we made the decision so that the game quality could inch closer to perfection.”

From Friday to June 27, the Lies of P demo will be available on platforms such as PlayStation 4,5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S and Steam.

The demo preview is already being received favorably, with mounting positive responses on Tweets and global media outlets.

"Lies of P is shaping up to be an extremely competent Soulslike," wrote Wccftech.

"The biggest thing that sets Lies of P apart from the games that pioneered these styles is the mere fact that you're playing as Pinocchio on the hunt for Geppetto," wrote GGRecon, another outlet. "It's a fascinating narrative twist on a formula we recognize."

Lies of P is a PC and console roleplaying game (RPG) based on the story of “Pinocchio.” Set in the late 19th century, Lies of P is a “soulslike” game, a sub-genre of dark-fantasy games that are usually very difficult to conquer.

Anticipation for the title has been rising as it took home three awards at Gamescom, the biggest game event in Europe, last year. Lies of P was named the Most Wanted Sony PlayStation Game, Best Action Adventure Game award and the Best Role Playing Game award. It is the first time a domestically-developed console game won three awards at the event.

Park also expressed confidence in providing competent optimization. The term refers to game’s ability run on multiple systems, to ensure smooth gameplay and visual experience regardless of the platform that it is played on.

“We’ve put a lot of effort in optimization and we’re confident that Lies of P will offer a smooth gameplay, which will be proved through this demo,” said Park. “With the Geforce GTX 1080 graphics card released in 2016, you can enjoy a smooth gameplay on a 144 hertz monitor.”

Analaysts’ report predict the first quarterly sales for the title will exceed 2 million units, which Park agreed with.

“Although it’s difficult to predict the sales numbers because it’s our first time to release a single-player game, the figure which analysts expect and the anticipated figure from our global partners is similar,” said Park.

Neowiz was one of the biggest game companies in the late 2000s after it split off from Neowiz Holdings in 2007, mostly publishing online PC games developed by other companies rather than developing its own.

After falling behind larger companies that had quickly moved onto the mobile world, Lies of P is expected to be Neowiz’s big bet.

“If our project does well, we can anticipate a general trend to be formed where more consoles and single player games are released by domestic game companies,” said Choi Ji-won, directing producer of Lies of P. “Users will cheer for them, and developers will be proud of what they’ve accomplished.”

The game is priced at 64,800 won for the standard edition, with the deluxe edition costing 74,800 won.
