“The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is for sure going to be released with a bigger screen compared to the previous Flip 4,” said a source from Samsung Electronics with knowledge of the matter.
The source did not provide numbers, but according to multiple media outlets, the cover display is 3.4 inches when measured diagonally. That is almost double the size of the previous versions, the Flip 3 and Flip 4, whose cover displays measure 1.9 inches.
Galaxy Z Flip 5 is Samsung Electronics’ much-anticipated foldable smartphone that will debut in Seoul on July 26.
The model targets the younger generation with its twist in design and colors compared to the more premium Fold series.
Samsung Electronics has only upgraded the size of the cover display once since the Flip series launched in 2020. The first two editions – the Flip 1 and 2 - had a 1.06-inch cover display.
The main display has been consistent with a 6.7-inch screen.
“The upcoming Flip 5 is focused on usability among others,” the source said.
“There will be more functions added to the One UI.”
One UI is Samsung Electronics’ user interface for its gadgets from smartphones to watches and tablets. It allows users to customize their gadgets and add aesthetic perks to the screen.
Samsung Electronics recently unveiled the latest One UI 5.1 at the Galaxy Unpacked event for the flagship S series early this year.
The Korean tech company is scheduled to debut its foldable series – the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 – at the Unpacked event in Seoul on July 26 along with other wearables.
It is the first time that Samsung Electronics will hold the global event on its home turf.
