Hyundai Motor and Korea Testing Certification Institute (KTC) jointly set up a center to facilitate the standardization of charging systems for electric vehicles, the carmaker said Monday.

The center, dubbed “E-CQV,” will work towards providing certified standards for quality verification of electric vehicle (EV) charging systems, which will be revealed by the end of this year at the earliest. The standards will be made available for all EV manufacturers and related businesses.

Kim Heung-soo, the head of the global strategy office at Hyundai Motor, Ahn Sung-il, the KTC president and Jin Jong-wook, the president of the Korea Agency of Technology and Standards, held the center's opening ceremony at KTC headquarters in Gunpo, Gyeonggi, on Monday.

The verification will access EV chargers under five categories: charger’s durability, charging performance, security, communications and electromagnetic compatibility.

E-CQV aims to expand beyond the domestic market to provide a globally unified guideline for EV chargers to reduce the time and cost needed for EV manufacturers in the North American and European regions to attain quality verification.

“We established E-CQV to provide a set of guidelines for EV chargers so our customers don’t have to worry about their vehicles breaking down while charging,” said Kim Heung-soo. “Hyundai Motor will strive to promote a quality EV charging ecosystem.”
