Lamborghini on Friday introduced the Revuelto, its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powered by a classic V12 engine, in Korea.
Automobili Lamborghini’s first-ever high-performance super sports car is both a nod to its legacy and a harbinger of the brand’s electrification, says the Italian carmaker.
“One thing that our customers expect the most from a Lamborghini is probably the performance — and the Revuelto has the strongest performance ever for a road vehicle developed by Lamborghini,” said Kim Seung-chan, senior sales and marketing manager at Lamborghini Korea, during a press event held on Friday in Gimpo, Gyeonggi.
The Revuelto “is not only a newly-released car, but a flagship, a pinnacle of our brand, and also what symbolizes our plan for electrification,” said Kim.
The Revuelto needs 2.5 seconds to go from zero to 100 kilometers per hour. Its 6.5-liter V12 engine and three electric motors generate a power output of up to 1,015 horsepower, with a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
“Unlike other hybrid cars with downsized engines, we pushed up the power output for the Revuelto by 30 percent from the previous models, while cutting carbon emissions by 30 percent,” said Kim.
The spaceship-inspired exterior design of the Revuelto succeeds the legacy of Lamborghini’s previous iconic models such as the Countach and the Aventador, with iconic scissor doors.
“Introducing the first hybrid Lamborghini, of course we wanted to be consistent with our DNA — so we merged the best of the two worlds,” said Francesco Scardaoni, regional director of Automobili Lamborghini’s Asia-Pacific operations, on Friday.
“We merged the best of our history [...] with the best of the new world, the electrification,” said Scardaoni.
Following its first attempt at electrification with the Revuelto, Lamborghini plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid Huracan in 2024. The brand’s first fully-electric car will be rolled out in 2028.
The Revuelto arrived in Korea after it first made a global debut earlier this year, which marked the 60th anniversary of the carmaker’s foundation.
The Revuelto is priced in the high 700-million-won ($536,000) range, according to Lamborghini Korea. Official preorders in Korea began Friday and the delivery is set to start next year globally.
