The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (Amcham) said on Friday that it hosted a special luncheon to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Korea-U.S. alliance.

Lieutenant General Willard M. Burleson III, and Joy M. Sakurai, chargé d'affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, attended the event held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel in southern Seoul.

“Given the rapidly changing geopolitical and geoeconomic landscape in our region, closer bilateral cooperation and engagement between the U.S. and Korea are essential to address key global security issues,” Amcham Chairman James Kim said in his remarks at the luncheon.

During the event, Burleson, Sakurai and Kim discussed the significance of the Korea-U.S. alliance, the challenges posed by North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, the implications of geopolitical dynamics surrounding China and Russia, the economic cooperation within the alliance as well as the trilateral partnership between Korea, the United States and Japan.
