Foreign-born descendants of Korean freedom fighters against Japanese colonial rule wave the Korean flag after they were given Korean citizenship on Monday. The Justice Ministry held a ceremony to award Korean citizenship to 20 descendants of freedom fighters, including nine Russians, two Chinese and two Americans, to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Korea’s independence from colonial rule. The Korean government has been tracking down descendants of Korean freedom fighters since 2004 using DNA. Some 1,345 descendants of freedom fighters have been given Korean citizenship. [YONHAP]
