While some scouts leave Korea, others remain to tour the country

A quarter of the 43,000 scouts who gathered in Korea for the World Scout Jamboree have left the country as of Saturday.

The rest remain in Korea for scheduled tours of the country.

According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs and Safety on Saturday, about 12,000 scouts left the country between Friday and Saturday.

However, others are continuing their sojourn in Korea, including 890 scouts from Sweden who toured Busan, including Gwangalli Beach, on Saturday. The Swedes will also tour the UN peace memorial, Gimcheon Culture Village and Beomeosa Temple before leaving on Tuesday.

Some 24 scouts from Ukraine plans to stay for another week to participate in a “cultural odyssey” hosted by Gyeonggi Institute for Global Education, which will include visits to cultural and historical sites in Seoul and Gyeonggi.

Some 510 scouts from seven countries including Ireland, Malta and Poland will visit destinations at North Jeolla, including Jeonju Hanok Village and Imsil Cheese Theme Park, as well as Seonyudo Island in Gunsan.

“The government will continue to take responsibility for the safety of every last scout while providing convenience for Jamboree participants,” Minister Lee Sang-min said in a press release.
