“Suga will be beginning his required service on Sept. 22,” BigHit Music said on Weverse, its fan community platform, on Sunday.
“There will not be any official events taking place on the day he starts his service or on the day he enters the training camp. We kindly ask fans to refrain from visiting Suga at his workplace during the period of his service,” it added.
While unspecified, Suga will likely complete his mandatory service as a social service agent due to his shoulder injury.
In Korea, all young men are required to serve around one and a half years in the military unless determined unfit for service.
Men who get a lower grade on their physical evaluation can substitute their military service by serving as a social service agent at a public institution for 21 months unless they otherwise volunteer for active duty. Social service agents must also attend a three-week basic military training at an Army boot camp before or during their service period.
Suga will be the third BTS member to begin his mandatory service, following Jin, who began his service in December and J-Hope, who started in April.
“It’s nothing to cry about guys,” Suga said during a Weverse livestream on Sunday. “We will meet in 2025. I, too, find it pitiful that I won’t be able to do much for the next two years, but we promised [to meet again in 2025].”
“Please don’t worry too much, and see you in 2025,” he said.
BigHit Music also warned fans not to fall into “unauthorized tours or package products” that violate copyright infringements in its statement.
