Nineteen Koreans held captive by a kidnapping and phishing ring in Myanmar since last month have been rescued.

According to the Korean Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, the Koreans were held against their will in Tachileik, a mountainous area in the so-called Golden Triangle between Laos and Thailand.

The Korean government received information that the Koreans had been held captive since early October and worked with the Burmese authorities to ensure their safe release.

The local police have relocated the Korean captives to a safe location.

The Korean government in August issued a travel warning for northern Myanmar.
