The police said they are looking into a threat of attack made online against activists from women's groups that are to rally in front of the game publisher Nexon on Tuesday.
According to a cyber investigation unit at the Gyeonggi Bukbu Provincial Police Agency on Tuesday, a post that threatened to attack "feminists" with a knife was uploaded on several online forums, including DC Inside.
The posts have been taken down.
The police plan to station police officers at the rally on Tuesday.
Nexon has been facing allegations on social media that one of its animated promotion videos for its game MapleStory contained a symbol of radical feminism.
The symbol is known for being part of the logo for the now-defunct Megalia, Korea's formerly largest radical feminist online forum, in ridiculing the size of Korean men's genitals.
The production company behind the video, Studio Ppuri issued an apology over the incident.
However, women's rights activists planned a rally to protest Nexon's decision to launch a probe into the matter.
