Telecom service provider KT slimmed down its C-suite and hired an outsider as chief technology officer (CTO) in the latest annual reshuffle announced on Thursday.

It is the first major reshuffle that the company has undergone since KT’s new CEO Kim Young-shub was appointed in August.

Oh Seung-pil, who previously worked at Microsoft, Yahoo and Hyundai Card, was appointed CTO to oversee enterprise-focused IT service and AI-related business.

Oh will be at the helm of the new division dedicated to technology, which combines the prior IT division and the research and development (R&D) center to accelerate its digital revolution utilizing its large language model Mi:dm.

Executive director Park Hyo-il, head of KT’s customer strategy division, was appointed as the chief strategy officer.

Executive Director Jang Min, who held prior positions including chief financial officer (CFO) in financial firms such as BC Card and internet-only Kbank, was named as CFO.

Executive Director Ko Choong-rim, who headed KT’s divisions in personnel and communication strategy, was appointed as the chief human resources officer.

The company also discontinued its so-called transformation division, which oversaw management, global business and finances, to clear out redundant positions. It also trimmed down the number of high-level executives by 20 percent compared to last year. The number of executives above and including the level position of managing director was reduced from 410 to 344.

“We hope this reshuffle will become a starting point for KT to take a leap forward to a digitally revolutionized company,” KT’s Kim Young-shub said in a statement. “KT executives and employees will give all we have so that we are appreciated by our customers.”
