Korean American actor Steven Yeun won Best Actor for Netflix original "Beef" at the 81st Golden Globe Awards Monday. "Beef" took home Best Miniseries or TV Film.
 
Yeun was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television at the Golden Globes Awards ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California Monday, beating five other nominees in the category.

Actors Woody Harrelson, Jon Hamm, Sam Claflin, Matt Bomer and David Oyelowo were those nominated along with Yeun.
 
Yeun's win marks the first time an actor of Korean descent has been awarded Best Actor at the Golden Globes. Previously, Netflix original series "Squid Game" actor O Yeong-su won Best Supporting Actor in 2022.
 
Released on Netflix in April and directed by Korean American Lee Sung-jin, "Beef" is about two Asian Americans who get into a "beef," or an altercation, with each other after a car accident and end up nearly ruining each other's lives.
 
Yeun played Danny Cho, opposite actor and comedian Ali Wong's Amy Lau. "Beef" topped Netflix's top 10 charts for five consecutive weeks upon release and garnered rave reviews.
 
The series itself won Best Miniseries or TV Film at the ceremony, while Wong was also awarded Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television.
 
With the Golden Globe win, Yeun is projected to be a strong contender for the Emmy Awards, in which he is nominated for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series. The 75th Emmy Awards are set to take place on Jan. 15 in Los Angeles.
 
Yeun, whose Korean name is Yeun Sang-yeop, rose to prominence for playing a recurring character in the AMC television series "The Walking Dead" (2010–2021). He subsequently starred in a number of critically acclaimed films such as "Okja" (2017), "Burning" (2018) and the 2020 drama "Minari," which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor nomination. Yeun visited Korea in October for the Busan International Film Festival.
