Lee is accused of killing two women in their 60s who ran Korean-style coffee shops known as dabang.
The first victim was found strangled at her store in Goyang, Gyeonggi, on Dec. 30, while the second victim was found murdered on Jan. 5 in the store she owned in Yangju, Gyeonggi.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that when he gets drunk, he likes to show off his strength as he had felt emasculated due to the extended period he had spent in prison.
Lee also said he felt looked down upon by society.
The suspect reportedly has five prior convictions, including for robbing several dabang and sexual assault. He spent 22 years in prison and was released in November.
