The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency transferred the 31-year-old footballer to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office without detention for illegally filming his sexual encounters and inflicting secondary harm.
Hwang’s attorney was also referred to the prosecutor for leaking private information.
Hwang submitted a request to replace his investigator to the police agency the previous day, arguing that the police leaked investigation intelligence.
The football player claimed that a broker approached him asking for money in exchange for ending his investigation.
As Hwang didn’t show any interest, the broker spilled out information such as the location and date for his search and seizure, which only the investigators could know.
The footballer has been under investigation since last year after an Instagram post shared by an unidentified individual who claimed to be Hwang’s ex-lover. The post was a video in which a naked man was with a woman, claiming the man to be Hwang.
The person accused Hwang of filming sexual encounters without consent and having sexual relationships with multiple women at the same time.
Hwang has been under police investigation ever since. He denies filming his encounters without his partners' knowledge.
The player was suspended by the Korean national team on Nov. 28 following the ongoing investigation.
The police also imposed a travel ban against the player, which ended on Jan. 28.
He recently joined Turkish team Alanyaspor on Feb. 7 on loan from Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
