Hanwha Aerospace said Thursday it has submitted a bid proposal for an unmanned vehicle project of the United States Army via a consortium formed with American defense company Anduril Industries.
The consortium, formed together with Maryland-based autonomous vehicle company Forterra, is aspiring to participate in the second increment of the U.S. Army's unmanned Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (S-MET) vehicle, Hanwha Aerospace said.
Founded in 2017 by Palmer Luckey, the founder of Meta-acquired Oculus, Anduril is gaining attention in the defense industry for its focus on unmanned technology and software development.
Hanwha Aerospace plans to support the development of a hybrid-type multipurpose unmanned vehicle platform capable of driving over a range terrain as required by the U.S. Army based on the company's independently developed multipurpose unmanned vehicle Arion.
Arion has already been recognized for its various autonomous driving functions and transport capabilities in the American Foreign Comparative Testing conducted in Hawaii in December last year, according to the company.
