Ballerina Kim Joo-won has been appointed as the artistic director for the first season of the Busan Opera House’s ballet company, the Busan Metropolitan government said Monday.

Member recruitment will be open from March 19 to 26.

The finalized members of the ballet company will debut the ballet performance of “Shining Wave” on Nov. 15 and 16 at the Busan Cinema Center’s Haneulyeon Theatre.

Kim was born in Busan and graduated from the Bolshoi Ballet School in Moscow in 1998. She joined the Korean National Ballet as the prima ballerina until 2012. Kim was awarded top female dancer at the Benois de la Danse ballet competition in 2006. She is currently a professor at Seoul Cyber University.

“I find it meaningful that there is going to be a ballet company in the beautiful and global city of Busan,” Kim said in a press release. “I look forward to working with talented ballet dancers. I hope that the cultural arts, especially ballet, will be warm and touching for Busan citizens and for everyone around the world.”
