Huons has taken the initiative in enhancing convenience for diabetes patients, in alignment with the government’s latest health insurance support policies.
On Feb. 29, CEOs Song Soo-young and Yoon Sang-bae announced their plan to offer a discount on the company’s electric smart insulin pen, the DIA:CONN P8, signaling the company’s participation in the government’s endeavors to expand health insurance support policies for diabetes management devices.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare's official announcement No. 2024-28, released on Feb. 23, stated that starting from Feb. 26, the financial burden of purchasing medical devices to manage diabetes will be eased for type 1 diabetes patients under the age of 19.
For this specific group of patients, the government has reduced copayment amounts by subdividing automated insulin delivery devices into three types based on functionality, while also implementing new and improved standard support levels per item. Support will also be expanded for electrodes used for continuous glucose monitoring systems and consumable materials.
The DIA:CONN P8 launched by Huons last December is the first domestically produced electric smart insulin pen.
Following the changes in related policies, the aforementioned patients will now receive increased government support, with 90 percent of the DIA:CONN P8 being covered upon purchase.
Huons will extend the discount offer for the DIA:CONN P8 until June, to also ease the copayment burden for type 2 diabetes patients who do not benefit from the expansion of medical care benefits, and to improve the accessibility of the smart insulin pen.
Those who purchase the DIA:CONN P8 individually on the company’s HU:ON Diabetes Care webpage will receive an additional 15 percent discount, which will benefit type 2 diabetes patients by reducing copayments.
Additionally, the exclusive DIA:CONN P8 Set will be available for members who apply for support through the company’s homepage, and customers who buy the set will also receive a free DIA:CONN P8 Cartridge (DS-P3) 7Pack.
The DIA:CONN P8 is a multi-use electric smart insulin pen associated with Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM). It operates in synchronization with the DIA:CONN diabetes management platform, delivering real-time notifications to the patient regarding their glucose levels and insulin activity status.
Furthermore, the pen helps prevent hypoglycemia by administering precisely calculated injections using the Bolus calculator.
"We decided to offer a price discount on the electric smart insulin pen DIA:CONN P8 in hopes of extending a helping hand to patients struggling with diabetes," a representative from Huons said. "We will continue to actively seek ways to assist diabetes patients by improving the accessibility of diabetes management devices in the future."
