Bae Jun-ho followed a long-overdue debut Championship goal w ith a worthy sequel over the weekend, scoring a huge opener for Stoke City in their 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough at home.

“I think he’s doing really well. He’s getting better,” Stoke manager Steven Schumacher said with a smile in an interview ahead of Stoke’s match against No. 3 Leeds United. “Obviously he’s a player who’s got huge talent. It’s easy for us to see that.”

Schumacher has big hopes for Bae, who joined the team from K League 1 side Daejeon Hana Citizen. In a post-match interview after Stoke City’s Saturday win, Schumacher had said he hoped the goal would boost Bae’s confidence “‘cause we need somebody in the team who’s gonna catch fire, and hopefully it’s him.”

Despite going six months before getting on the Championship scoresheet, Bae’s new streak could be a turning point for him individually and for the squad fighting to keep its spot on the table.

“As soon as we came in the building we knew what sort of potential he has,” Schumacher said. “[I]n the final third and in the initial few games, probably just wasn’t making the right decisions or showing enough quality to score the goals that he probably deserved from his performances, but the last couple of games he’s been in the right place at the right time.”
