Hana Bank opened a new trading room at the bank’s headquarters in Jung District, central Seoul, on Wednesday.
The two-story trading room, named Hana Infinity Seoul, spans 2,096 square meters (22,561 square feet) with 126 seats, which Hana Bank says is the largest of its kind ever in Korea.
The newly built trading room is replacing the bank’s previous trading room in Hana Financial Group’s headquarters in Myeong-dong, central Seoul.
The space has been designed to enable smooth around-the-clock operations for trading foreign currencies, financial derivatives, securities and more, according to Hana Bank.
“The opening of the newly established trading room is not a mere physical relocation — it will serve as a starting point for Hana Bank to expand its biggest forte, which is our capabilities in foreign exchange, by setting up an environment optimized for 24-hour trading activities,” said Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo during the opening ceremony held on Wednesday.
The ceremony was attended by some 50 guests, including Financial Services Commission Chairman Kim Joo-hyun, Financial Supervisory Service Gov. Lee Bok-hyun, HD Hyundai Chairman Kwon Oh-gap and top executives from Hana Financial Group affiliates.
With the opening of the Hana Infinity Seoul trading room, the bank aims to accelerate its business expansion. Eyeing the global demand for won currency trading, Hana Bank plans to establish a global network encompassing Seoul, Singapore and New York, starting with a new center in London, which is slated to open in the latter half of the year.
