In a surprising development Thursday, lawmaker-elect Choo Mi-ae, a six-term legislator and former leader of the Democratic Party (DP), was defeated by Rep. Woo Won-shik, a four-term lawmaker, in the majority party’s internal race to elect a candidate for the speaker of the first half of the four-year term of the next National Assembly, despite her alleged “full support” from DP leader Lee Jae-myung.
