A man in his 30s who made online threats to stab people at Seoul Station has been arrested.

Lee Chang-yeol, chief judge of the Seoul Northern District Court, issued the warrant on Sunday after questioning the suspect, citing the risk of fleeing, for his alleged death threats and obstructing police in carrying out their duties.

The 33-year-old suspect remained silent when questioned by reporters about whether he intended to carry out the threats or why he posted them online.

The suspect is accused of posting a death threat on an internet community on May 22, claiming he would “stab any 50 people at Seoul Station on May 24.”

Police apprehended him at his residence in Goyang, Gyeonggi, at 7:20 p.m. on May 24.

The arrest followed police obtaining a search and seizure warrant for an online community, dcinside, earlier in the day. After performing data analysis, police were able to track down the suspect.

The suspect has a history of criminal activity, with more than 10 prior offenses on his record.
