LG Energy Solution inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Massachusetts-based chipmaker Analog Devices to co-develop battery management and fast-charging technologies.

Under the agreement, the duo has agreed on a two-year joint effort through which Analog will supply high-performance battery management integrated circuits (BMIC). The company has a diverse product portfolio, including advanced technologies that measure impedance — the opposition of an electrical component to alternating current and voltage in a circuit.

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is a technology that takes measurements at different frequencies.

The two companies have also agreed to co-develop fast-charging technologies by building algorithms that could accurately measure the internal temperatures of EV battery cells.

"The joint effort with Analog, which has an innovative BMIC portfolio, will further strengthen the capabilities of LG Energy Solution's battery management solution," said Lee Dal-hoon, head of LG's BMS R&D Center.

"Through this joint effort, we will continue to enhance LG Energy Solution's technological prowess and deliver differentiated value to our customers."
