New wind turbine installation vessel by Hanwha Ocean hits the water

Hanwha Ocean's wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) [HANWHA OCEAN]

Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean pushed a new wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) out to sea.

Ordered by Cadeler in 2021, the WTIV measures 148 meters (486 feet) in length and 56 meters in width.

It is capable of sailing while carrying five offshore wind turbines, each with a generation capacity of 15 megawatts. Additionally, the vessel can install turbines in water depths of up to 65 meters.

Hanwha Ocean has received orders to build a total of four WTIVs, with two already delivered.

The company said it has been placing more business focus on the WTIV sector to keep up with growing demand driven by global efforts to combat global warming.

Wind power generated by turbines is considered an alternative renewable energy without carbon emission during operations.

Recently, the shipbuilder expanded its capabilities by taking over the offshore wind power and plant business from Hanwha Corporation and acquiring a stake in Singapore's floating facility designer and manufacturer Dyna-Mac.

The holdings group Hanwha Corporation has acquired a 23.9 percent in the Singaporean fabricator for $73.8 million. Under the deal, Hanwha Ocean owns a 21.52 percent stake, while Hanwha Aerospace takes 2.39 percent.
