KG Mobility to develop self-driving cars with Pony.ai
The Korean automaker said on Thursday it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the AI-specialized company to use its AI and big data to develop autonomous cars.
Founded in 2016 in Silicon Valley in California, Pony.ai also operates the self-driving Robotaxi and Robotruck services that use the autonomous driving technologies it developed.
KG Mobility also signed an agreement with Seoul's PonyLink to cooperate in self-driving car-related businesses like taxis and buses.
"KG Mobility will co-develop a controller for a platform used in autonomous cars," KG Mobility Chairman Kwak Jea-sun said. "The three parties will also cooperate in [developing] driving assist systems."
The Korean automaker in October also signed an MOU with local start up Autonomous a2z to co-develop a self-driving car system.
