Chung Kee-yong, right, Korea's special representative for Indo-Pacific, receives a medal awarded by the King of Morocco from the Moroccan ambassador for his efforts in enhancing Korea-Morocco relations during the Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Throne event at the Ambassador Seoul - A Pullman Hotel in central Seoul on Tuesday evening.
Chung, who previously served as the ambassador to Morocco, was honored with the Order of Ouissam Alaouite, with the rank of commander, by King Mohammed VI of Morocco for officially identifying Moroccan veterans who fought in the 1950-53 Korean War as part of the French army.
This identification marks the first official recognition of Moroccan veterans from the Korean War in nearly 70 years, as previously it was only documented that Moroccans participated in World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War.
