The selected guardians come from the provincial council, local police, firefighters, civil society organizations and university student councils. They will provide students with useful information about living in North Chungcheong, career advice and participate in various local activities together.

The initial 18 international students benefiting from the program are from Chungbuk Provincial University, which has a total of 57 international students.

Starting next month, North Chungcheong plans to expand the K-Guardian program to all universities in the province.

"As the number of international students increases, managing this growth is crucial," said Kim Young-hwan, governor of North Chungcheong. "We will do our best to ensure the K-Guardian program helps international students settle in easily."

North Chungcheong announced last year it aims to have 10,000 international students in the province by 2025. As of September, there were 8,640 international students living there.
