Anh Sung-jae joins decorated lineup of gourmet chefs for city gov't culinary event

Anh Sung-jae, a star judge on Netflix’s hit cooking show “Culinary Class Wars,” will offer his signature dishes for just 40,000 won ($29) in Seoul next month as part of the city government's efforts to promote the city as a global gourmet destination.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Tuesday that a special event featuring renowned chefs will be held at Sebitseom, a cultural complex on the Han River, on Nov. 3.

Several star chefs from the Netflix cooking show, including Anh, will take part to provide a unique gourmet experience for attendees. They are chefs Kang Seung-won — known as “Triple Star” on the show and owner of Seoul restaurant Trid — and Bae Kyung-jun — called “One Two Three” on the show and head chef of Korean restaurant Bornyon.

Chefs Jeong Young-hoon and Oh Jong-il, who both previously worked under Anh at his three-star Michelin restaurant Mosu, will also participate in the event to provide attendees with the chance to enjoy four fine-dining dishes while taking in the views of the Han River from the island.

This event comes as a celebration of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards event that took place in Seoul in March, according to the city government.

Along with the Michelin Guide, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants is one of the most celebrated dining awards. This year, four Korean restaurants, including Anh’s Mosu at No.1 , made it into the top 50. The others include Mingles at No. 13, 7th Door at No. 18 and Onjium at No. 21.

In total, nine local restaurants were named on the extended top 100 list, underscoring Seoul’s growing reputation as a global gourmet hub, the city government said.

The special event will be open to 150 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, with reservations available via the restaurant reservation app CatchTable at 2 p.m. on Oct. 28. Tickets are priced at 40,000 won per person.

“Seoul is a charming gourmet tourism city with exceptional chefs,” said Kim Yeong-hwan, the director general of the Tourism and Sports Bureau of the city government. “We aim to present a variety of events so that Seoul becomes the top destination for tourists both at home and abroad seeking a gourmet experience in Korea.”
