Suwon KT Sonicboom lost 91-70 to Taiwanese team Taoyuan Pauian Pilots in the East Asia Super League (EASL) game on Wednesday at Suwon KT Sonicboom Arena in Suwon, Gyeonggi, failing to bag a second straight win in the tournament.
Sonicboom won the first quarter 26-19, but allowed a comeback in the second quarter by ending it 44-43. The Pilots stretched their lead by the end of the third quarter, winning it 66-63 and made the last quarter a one-sided affair for a 91-70 victory.
Sonicboom’s Heo Hoon scored 21 points alone, but the Pilots’ attack outperformed the Suwon side with Treveon Graham scoring 32 and Alec Brown managing 25.
Wednesday’s loss is Sonicboom’s first in their first EASL season, where 10 teams from across Asia compete.
The loss comes after the Suwon side picked up their first EASL win against San Miguel Beermen of the Philippines earlier this month.
Sonicbook now sit in third place on the five-team table in Group A, where the top two teams reach the semifinals alongside the top two teams from Group B. The group stage takes place in a round-robin format.
Over in Group B, fellow KBL team Busan KCC Egis are competing this year, also for the first time in the club’s history.
Egis have yet to play a single EASL game this season, with their first game against the Macau Black Bears scheduled on Nov. 6
Until then, Egis will tune-up in the KBL that tipped off last week. Last season’s KBL Championship winners will play five more league games through Nov. 3, before jetting off to Macau for their first EASL game.
Sonicboom, meanwhile, play their next EASL game against Japanese team Hiroshima Dragonflies on Dec. 4.
Sonicboom and Egis will play both the EASL and KBL for the majority of the 2024-25 season, as both schedules overlap from October and February, when the EASL group stage finishes.
