The Korea News Editors' Association named Lee Tae-gyu, chief editorial writer of Hankook Ilbo, as its 26th president Tuesday.
The general assembly of associates convened at the Korea Press Center in Jung District, central Seoul, to elect its new president.
Lee, a graduate of Korea University's School of Media and Communication, joined Hankook Ilbo in 1993 and served in various positions at the newspaper, including editor of the national desk, before his current position as chief editorial writer.
"The recent issues in journalism are intertwined with changes in digital technology," said Lee in his inaugural address. "I will create opportunities to discuss media leadership in the digital era."
"I will look for ways to expand support projects for regional media essential for balanced regional development," he added. "I will also work to foster smooth communication and cooperation within the association and the broader media industry."
The Korea News Editors' Association was founded in 1957 as a media organization of some 60 major newspapers, broadcasters and news agencies nationwide.
