The Grand Koleos, Renault Korea’s newest medium-size SUV, has amassed 25,000 preorders.

The success of the Grand Koleos can largely be attributed to three factors: its hybrid system, its marketability and its specifications.

The Grand Koleos E-Tech Hybrid system has a total output of 245 horsepower, the highest among any vehicle of its kind on the market. In urban areas, drivers can take advantage of the SUV’s EV mode.

Even with 19-inch tires, the car’s Techno trim model boasts a combined fuel efficiency of 15.7 kilometers per liter (25.26 miles per liter). Equipped with both an industry-leading 1.64 kWh battery and a hybrid-specific 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine, the car uses up to 40 percent less fuel compared to the average gasoline engine.

The E-Tech hybrid model, decked out with cutting-edge features, starts at a price of 37.77 million won ($27,300), with tax benefits applied. All trims are capable of autonomous driving up to the second level with the “active driver assist” function. Not only does this function keep the car centered on the road, but it also features intelligent adaptive cruise control and a new automatic lane-changing assistance device.

With three 12.3-inch (11.9 centimeters) displays, passengers can enjoy not only video streaming services but also music streaming via the FLO platform and browse the web with Naver’s Wale browser. The Bose surround-sound system with active noise cancellation technology promises a first-class multimedia experience. It also guarantees a five-year 5G data plan for infotainment and connectivity services.

The Grand Koleos also includes a fully automated parking assistance system and a “clear view transparent chassis” that allows drivers to easily scan the roads from the inside.

The car’s frame is designed based on the ultra-safe compact modular architecture platform, and 18 percent of its parts are made with hot press forming (HPF) technology, which is two to three times stronger than parts made with regular steel.

The Grand Koleos was developed through the joint efforts of multiple Korean and foreign companies. Renault partnered with Korea’s TMAP Mobility, Naver Cloud, and startup Dream ACE, as well as British streaming service provider Screenhits TV and French global automotive supplier Valeo. It also extensively utilizes Posco’s advanced steel products.

“The performance of the Grand Koleos in the market proves that consumers make smart decisions,” said a Renault Korea associate, who added that moving forward, the company would “strengthen its market positioning with continued service improvements and customer satisfaction.”

The Renault Grand Koleos is displayed in Renault Korea showrooms nationwide and is available in three trims: Techno, Iconic and Esprit Alpine.
