Rapper and singer G-Dragon has donated the reward he earned from tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” (2018-) to his anti-drug foundation.
His donation was confirmed during the airing of the show on Wednesday night, where the artist appeared as a guest. He was granted 1,000,000 won ($725) after succeeding at a quiz challenge.
The contribution will go to the JusPeace Foundation, which the artist established on Aug. 5 after being cleared of his drug allegations. G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, currently serves as its honorary chairman, while Choi Yong-ho, the CEO of Galaxy Corporation, acts as the board’s chair.
During the show, G-Dragon mentioned there are "situations that are beyond my control and not my fault," having lived in the spotlight for more than half of his life.
Although he did not specify which "situation" he was referring to, it is said that he was alluding to last October when he faced drug allegations.
He went on to explain the hardships he endured during that time, saying, “I was trying to overcome it within the limits [that I could manage], but I felt like I was being pushed into a corner with no answers in sight.”
“I felt like I could have even considered dangerous choices if I had become more mentally exhausted, with people pushing me from the front and a wall at the back,” he added.
The artist, however, said that he is now enjoying a more stable life through meditation and practicing tea ceremonies.
The foundation's name, JusPeace, combines the words "justice" and "peace." The foundation was launched as the artist "wants to stand by people who are affected by the world’s biases and unfairness and create a society where individuals are treated equally and with respect," as he stated in December following the announcement of the organization's launch.
His appearance on the talk show came 12 years after his last appearance on SBS’s “Healing Camp” in 2012. This comes ahead of the release of his upcoming digital single, “Power,” set to be released on Thursday, marking his first new music in seven years.
G-Dragon debuted as a member of boy band Big Bang, one of Korea’s most prolific acts, in 2008. A year later, he launched his solo career with his first full-length album, "Heartbreaker."
